Below you will find a copy of the letter sent home to 5th Grade Parents regarding fitness testing.
Dear 5th Grade Parents/Guardians,
As a part of your child’s P.E. program, all schools throughout California will be participating in the FITNESSGRAM fitness assessment throughout March-April, which measures health-related fitness for youth. This is often referred to as the California Physical Fitness Test.
This assessment will measure aerobic capacity, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition. We ask that you encourage your child to participate with his/her best effort and to the best of their ability. The FITNESSGRAM assessment is a measure of good health as opposed to athletic ability. The assessment includes these components:
A confidential FITNESSGRAM report will be provided for each student to take home. This report will include your child’s scores and information on the FITNESSGRAM Healthy Fitness Zones. The healthy Fitness Zone represents the level of fitness needed for good health. The information on the is private report will not be displayed or made public. Students will not be graded based on their scores, but instead will earn a grade for these PE lessons based on participation and effort.
For more information regarding the FITNESSGRAM assessment, please refer to www.FITNESSGRAM.net/faqparents or www.fluittphysicaleducation.weebly.com. If you have other questions, please contact Mrs. Fluitt, your child’s physical education teacher.
Sincerely,

Grading Policy (4th-5th Grades)
PE grades are based on each child's participation and his or her preparedness for class. All 4th and 5th graders begin the trimester with 100 points, which is equivalent to roughly 5 points per day of PE. Students lose 5 points off of their grade for each class that they are disruptive to others, not participating, or wearing improper shoes or clothing. If a behavioral offense is repeated several times, students will lose 10 points off of their grade.
If your child loses points for any reason, your child will bring home a note explaining why he or she lost points. Your child must bring back the note signed the next PE class. *Effective 1/23/18*
Each student may make up 5 points per trimester lost due to improper shoes or clothing by completing ONE Make-Up Run or Fitness Assignment. Students must turn in make-up assignment must before the end of the trimester to receive credit.
